2. Arriving in Alicante - The Vall de Pop

Our first planned destination was Jalon, capital of the Vall de Pop (Jalon Valley), approximately 30km inland from DΓ©nia. As forecast, the weather was horrendous for the latter part of the drive, with torrential rain and strong winds. Ironically the worst of it occurred as we passed south of Valencia city, and we were so acutely reminded of the devastating floods that happened here last autumn. Fortunately we arrived safely in Jalon, although the torrential rains didn’t stop all night 😒  Having discovered this region last year, we were keen to return and spend more time - we’re very excited πŸ˜› It’s a beautiful area, one of the most lush areas within the south of Spain. Lovely little villages, surrounded by stunning mountain ranges, and what seems a very slow and gentle pace of life. Loads for us to do as well - great walking, mountain biking, fabulous wine producing region, and loads of interesting little cafes and bars.  Countryside surrounding Jalon Staying at the Jalon cam...

1. Escaping the British winter - or so we thought! Our journey south to Spain πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ

After an exceptionally snowy and icy couple of weeks at home, we were excited to be heading off to warmer climes, hopefully escaping the challenging British weather for a few weeks - Spain here we come!  But setting off wasn’t as easy as we’d hoped - actually getting the van out of the driveway took five of us to get the better of the snow and ice. A couple of our neighbours passed by on their tractor and offered help - I was fully expecting them to hitch the van up and tow it out, but with 3 of us pushing from behind we soon got moving 🀣 First challenge dealt with successfully πŸ‘ Leaving the snow behind  Headed down to Kent for a quick overnighter to see our dear friends JJ, Judy and Jessica, then back on the road early the next morning and on to Folkestone to get the train. Sailed through Pet Passport Control (always a relief), then boarded an earlier train to Calais - yet again the Eurotunnel terminal was deserted.  Arriving in France was cold - snowy, misty and very ...
